Inspired by the fantastic workshops delivered into classrooms by leading children’s authors at earlier in the year, over a thousand books have been written by Shropshire primary school pupils for this year’s Creative Writing Competition to bring Schools’ Week 2021 to a triumphant close.
Year 5 teacher at St Winefride’s Convent School said of the project:
It was such a pleasure to see a pupil become so enthralled by writing, a boy who has always had interesting ideas, but never wanted to share them, now thrilled at the idea of painting pictures with words, vivid enough, to transport others to a different world.
A winner was selected from every school for each age group that entered (KS1 and KS2). These winners then went through another judging phase to select the top four stories from each Key Stage.
Thank you and congratulations to EVERYONE who took part – from the author-mentors, teachers, TA’s and all the pupils across Shropshire who didn’t let a mere worldwide pandemic stop them from working together to bring joy and creativity to the art of writing stories!
