Book Award 2018 Art Competition Winners on public display

Visit the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery from now until early June to see the winning art entries from the Big Book Award 2018 art competition.  The artwork is installed in the entrance foyer to the Museum, just by the Tourist Information Office, for everyone to see and admire. Well done all you fantastic pupils – Shropshire has an impressive pool of talented artists and creators.

How pupils used art to express and review the shortlisted books in Book Award 2018:

As their Young Arts Project for 2018, the The Arts Society, Shrewsbury Branch, with the support of Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, supported the art competition for schools taking part in the BIG Book Award 2018 project.

Entry Criteria:

  • Children were invited to submit one picture illustrating a scene from one of the shortlisted books.
  • Children may use any medium they choose except collage

Judging:The Judging Panel included teachers as well as artists and specialists from The Arts Society, Shrewsbury Branch.  Judges considered the following to help make the final decision:

  • Picture composition (use of the formal elements)
  • Effective depiction of the chosen scene
  • Technical skills. Eg:  Application of media/quality of drawing
  • Creativity and originality
