Primary schools across Shropshire are coming on board now with Bookfest for our Readers to Writers 2023 project and we’d encourage you to sign up early to guarantee your school’s subsidised place.

This is a wonderful creative writing project with a sense of purpose.  It provides a planning free, one stop literacy programme to deliver the reading and writing component of KS1 and KS2 teaching for the Spring Term 2023.

Adopted by over 40 Shropshire primary schools since 2015, Readers to Writers is supported by our network of children’s authors from across the UK who will deliver bespoke workshops into schools to mentor pupils as they produce their very own book.

Your school and your pupils could benefit from:

In-class creative writing workshop in January/February 2023.

Mentorship from a published children’s author.

One-day creative writing conference for every class teacher at University Centre Shrewsbury on 16 November 2022.

Class sets of books by workshop author.

Resource pack for literacy planning & support from Bookfest co-ordinator.

Don’t take it from us – here’s what teachers in Shropshire primary schools have to say about Readers to Writers:

“The Bookfest project has been a tremendous inspiration to the children in my class; now they believe themselves to be writers.”

Year 5 Teacher St Winefride’s School, Shrewsbury

“I can’t repeat often enough what a fabulous experience it was for the children. The impact on their writing and how they saw themselves as writers was huge.

Jo Turner – teacher – Muxton Primary School

“*** couldn’t really put pen to paper when he first came to us and has loved the project so much that now he’s writing all the time, he’s made two years of progress in just six months. A truly invaluable project.”

Becky Johnson – Teacher – Prees C/E Primary School

What to do now?
