Castlefields Primary School (Bridgnorth), Longden CE Primary School and Rushbury CE Primary School have demonstrated that they continue to place reading and writing for pleasure at the centre of their schools’ policies and that they form an important part of the school improvement strategy.
They were first given this award in 2019 and as the status lasts for three years, they successfully applied again to renew their positions as Leading in Reading schools in 2022.
Head Teacher Rebecca Lee from Castlefields Primary School, Head Teacher Chris Tay and teacher Karen Rogers from Longden Primary School and teacher Kate Reeves from Rushbury CE Primary school all were presented with their new certificates and plaques at the annual Shropshire Bookfest conference for teachers on 16 November 2022.
All three schools had been visited by representatives from the University Centre Shrewsbury and Shropshire Bookfest and clearly demonstrated evidence of an inclusive approach to running a reading project across the school, have an active school library and demonstrated commitment to providing pupils with a wide range of quality, contemporary and classic reading material that is regularly reviewed and refreshed.
