Schools’ Week 2021 is a 6 month long project that began in January 2021 and offers primary schools an opportunity to deliver a creative writing initiative with a sense of purpose – for children to write their very own book.
9 children’s authors delivered pre-recorded, bespoke creative writing workshops to 58 classrooms across the county, to mentor each pupil on their journey to becoming an author. These workshops were made available to schools from February and offer a valuable resource for schools to revisit as much as they like as the pupils go on their journey to writing their very own books.
Classes have been given a selection of books by their assigned author-mentor, a book for every pupil, to support the workshop content.
Also, a raft of carefully researched bank of resources and bite-sized films with handy tips and advice on how to make a story really fly have been produced by Shrewsbury Bookfest for teachers and pupils to refer to during the project.
The eventual books written by pupils, will be entered into a county-wide creative writing competition. Every school will have a winner from KS1 and KS2 and a selection of these winning stories will be published as narrated films for the wider public to enjoy and share.
