2016 Book Award Shortlist

‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ by Tom McLaughlin

About the book:

When Joe tells a local news reporter exactly what he would do if he were leader of the country, the video goes viral and Joe’s speech becomes famous all over the world!

Before long, people are calling for the current leader to resign and give someone else a go . . .and that’s how an ordinary boy like Joe ended up with the most extraordinary job.

Now the fun can really start.

About the Author:

Before becoming a writer and illustrator Tom spent 9 years working as political cartoonist for The Western Morning News thinking up silly jokes about even sillier politicians. Then, in 2004 Tom took the plunge into illustrating and writing his own books. Since then he has written and illustrated picture books as well as working on animated TV shows for Disney and Cartoon Network and is now currently writing and illustrating his first debut kids’ novel for OUP.

Tom lives in Devon and his hobbies include drinking tea, looking out of the window, and biscuits. His hates include spiders, running out of biscuits, and writing biographies.

I think the Accidental prime minister is a great book. I love how it uses lots of funny words and its really funny. I also like how its got a load of funny pictures and I think the funniest bit of the book is when Joe accidentally turns into prime minster ! I have never read a book like this because its not the book I would normally read so it was a change a good change. I think this is a good book.

This book is full of good description and funny stuff plus you would never think that a kid could become prime minster.

I think Accidental Prime-minister is a brilliant, full of comedy book. This book is a really exiting book and makes you laugh the whole way through. I’d say it is suitable for all ages, because it is entertaining and there are some funny pictures in it if you like a book with pictures. Younger readers would need someone to read it to them though. I rate it 9/10: nearly perfect! Altogether I really like this book. Go on…give it a read!!!
