Lily has lots of worries. She’s struggling to compete in her fell-running races and, worse, she’s losing her gran to Alzheimer’s. But then she discovers her
great‑great‑grandfather’s diaries from the First World War. Could his incredible story of bravery help her reconnect with her gran and even give her the inspiration she needs to push through and win?

I liked this book with all the excitment
I like this book a lot it is adventurous and I love running.
This is a great book because it mixes two of my favourite interests running and World War I.
I really enjoyed this book because of its adventurous vibe
Great book! I love reading war books so definitely my kind of book. It was very exciting all the time. My favorite part was when Ernest was in the trenches running messages on the front line.
I loved this book. It kept you very hooked and I never wanted to put it down. It was really interesting to read something about the war and amazing to see the story grow. I have read all of the Bookfest books and I enjoyed this one the most.
I enjoyed Armistice Runner because it had running and war stuff. I liked the bit where she found her Granddad’s diary and she saw how hard it was back in the war and she finally …[spoiler alert]… at the end of the book
I really liked this book because it was factual and interesting. I liked how Lilly was like her Granddad. It was very engaging.
Armistice Runner was the best book because I love running and all the parts were fun and the war was most tense. The best part was when [spoiler alert] …at the end.
I have almost finished the Bookfest books but this one was my first one. I liked it because when Lily found the log book you have two points of view. You get to see what happened with the First World War but also see what is happening with Lily and her family. I recommend this book.
This book is a must-read because it has put sport and war all in one. My favourite character is Ernest because he tries to cope with the struggles of war and the sadness of a death…
I have liked lots of the Bookfest books but Armistice Runner is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I love the way Lily is reading from the diary and the world war parts; it also carries on telling you about Lily’s life which really interests you in the book. The best part of action was when [spoiler].
I like this book it is amazing. Keep on making books like this they make me myself and make me believe I can do anything. My favourite thing is that she believes in herself enough to find her gran. 🙂
I loved the book Armistice Runner. I read this book in a day; it really inspired me to get outside and do exercise; the author must have thought hard about the two different parts like when it’s the War and Lily’s life. Having her Great Grandad’s diary in there really engaged me in the book. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure.
I like Armistice Runner because it has a lot of action and multiple storylines. It was hard for Lily to cope with her grandma, her races, and her grandads log book, but she persevered through it. It was a bit gruesome when the person gets blown up while trying to play the piano, but other than that, it wasn’t too violent. I would rate this an 8.75/10.
I really enjoy this book because it is really intriguing. The scene when her Gran went missing made me want to read more and more. I would recommend this book to people who love adventure and outdoors .
Armistice Runner is a very interesting. Book soon as I saw it I had to read it right away. It will inspire children to persevere and try their best all the time especially at school. But it was very violent at times so don’t read if you are young.
My favourite part from Armistice Runner is when Lily’s Gran goes missing and Abby who is Lily’s hardest competitor in the race [spoiler]. I also love the gruesome parts especially in the diary.
I really enjoyed this book, It is funny, It is adventurous , and I would love to read more. My favourite part is when Lily doesn’t give up when she tried finding her gran. Keep up the good work. 🙂 Your books are phenomenal.
Part of Armistice Runner was strongly influenced by the 1st World War and the other by a modern-day girl. Ernest (one of our protagonists) lost his brother in the war and was determined to fight against that horrible situation; he wanted to kill a German. Ernest would run every day, from trench to trench, and back again, crucially delivering messages about what the enemy were doing.
It is an amazing book following the life of two inspiring Darby family members. One is Lily, a young fell runner who continues the legacy of her great-great grandfather by running the fells in Cumbria. Things take a turn for the worse when Lily’s nan gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Although, she stays strong and is determined to help her family through this difficult time. Lily’s great-great grandfather was also a fell runner before he was sent to war.
The fictional story is set in the picturesque landscape of the Lake District – where Lily’s grandparents live. The story superbly contrasts between the horrific French battlefields and the peaceful fields and lakes of Northern England. Ernest’s running logs lets you step into his shoes and connect with the horrors of war.
I really enjoyed this book because it made me remember about the war and how they would lie about their age so they could try and save the country. It was a bit like a mystery story because every chapter you would read you would find clues to reveal the story.
Armistice Runner was an influencing read about the tragedies of war and fell running. Lily, the main character, is a determind, young girl who loves running but has a sick grandmother who sometimes forgets everything, ever her. One day, the grandma gives Lily a running log that was given to her by her grandfather. He was a fell runner, who went to war to pass messages from camp-to-camp. If you enjoy running and war, this is a perfect book for you
I really liked it because it was emotional at the end as she beats Abbie at the end i also love it when her grandma gives her some old fashioned running boots from world war 2. I would recommend it because it is so nice and fills you up with different emotions from sad to happy to sad to happy to worried. I really enjoyed it it really made me happy for Lilly when she won the race as she had always wanted to be in a drag race and finally she won it is a must read great book from start to finish.
Reading is my specialty, running is my specialty thats why I loved this book.
I LOVED IT!!! Armistice Runner – what a book, I just can’t believe how well Tom Palmer is doing with these books. I was reading his book called D-day Dog and that was a brilliant book as well. Armistice Runner was a very emotional book and almost made a lot of people cry and including me myself. I do love to read a lot of books that have the topic of adventure and mystery because they entice me and quite a lot of books don’t do that to me because I am a very picky person when it comes to books. Most people in the world like these and so do and you must read them.
Armistice Runner is one of my favourites by Tom Palmer. I did find some words rather complicated but I rather enjoyed the book and recommend it for others to read because you can learn from the hard words. Tom is a great writer and artist.
This book is great because it really tells you something about the world war and like how some people lost there sons, brothers, and family members in the world war .It might take long but it’s a detailed book whilst you’re doing so try to find which world war it was because I tried that but i couldn’t find out which one it is. It has got some sad bits about Lily’s nan with Alzheimers and how she tells lily about her Grandad’s journal. And out of the six books this one is the best.
This book is fantastic but it got boring after a while because it went on and on about family history but the last chapter made up for it hopefully people like it
Armistice Runner by Tom Palmer is great because there is so much detail and so many effects that is going on.A girl called Lily has always wanted to be a very long distance runner but in the end it is very emotional. You should read it because it will inspire you and it’ll make you want to read more;also don’t just back out if you don’t like it just keep on reading.Lily has always wanted to complete a drag race but people always kept on getting taken over. The race was difficult for her but remember always take it as an achievement and keep working hard.I highly recommend this book because it has been my favourite book so far!
Armistice Runner was an Amazing book by Tom Palmer. So I recommend this book to people across the globe. if you like Tom Palmer’s books this is the one for you or if you like the world war.
Armistice Runner is definitely my favourite book so far because it is so interesting and it is really sad and emotional and i think that the people who will read this will enjoy it especially chapter 8.
This book was boring at the beginning but later on it got really real.
I love this book because it makes you feel like you’re in the book and because it has no pictures you have your own opinion on the scene.
This book is good I wouldn’t say I loved it but, I did enjoy it read this book if you are a person (who does lots of running).
This is a great book about Lily running, but her nan is going through a hard time. She has an illness. As the story goes on Lily is working hard for a big race, and her nan comes as well. Thank you Tom Palmer for this great book.
I really enjoyed Armistice Runner because of the jumping between minds. It shows that even 100 years ago they did running races. I enjoyed the diary parts as it told a separate story inside a story. I didn’t like the end as the part where Lilly ran was too short and I wished that it was longer. I would recommend this to people who do sports as it tells two separate stories but both include running. 8.5 Stars.
I really enjoyed Armistice Runner because it’s about a girl who did fell runs and worked hard. She kept giving up until she read the stories of her Great Great Grandfather who was a fell runner and went to war. Then she got the courage to run. The best bit I liked was when Lilly ran up the mountain. You could feel how courageous she was.
I don’t like Abbie’s dad (Lilly’s rival). He was the most angry character and he pushed Abbie too much.
Older and younger readers will like this book. 9/10 Stars
Armistice Runner is the best book it is really good book to read it is so interesting to read I couldn’t get my head out of Armistice Runner it was that good. I would recommend this to people who like war and running .
I like how the two people in the story have run in the same race but so many years apart and I did not expect the gran to have the diary books still with her.
This book is incredible there is so much emotion the diary entries are great and the notes to Fred are amazing. I love the description of the fells and the village the lake sounds so magical. I love it and now I want to go to the Lake District. The flash backs to the war are so emotional and lovely. His relationship with Captain Whitaker is just heartwarming.
Armistics Runner is a really good book about a girl named Lilly who tries to restore her grandma’s memory. From trying to do this, Lilly goes on an adventure discovering about how terrible life was as a soldier in the war when her grandma gives her her granddads old war diaries.
I really enjoyed Armistice Runner. I found the plot very interesting and I am sure you will be hooked in by the author, Tom Palmer, like I was. I recommend this book to everyone but especially people who like reading war related stories.
My favourite character was Lily because she is very caring. The book felt like I was really in the story. In part of the book I cried because Lily’s brother got upset about her Nan having Alzheimer’s which meant she would forget a lot. I would rate Armistice Runner 10/10
Armistice Runner was even better than I thought it would be. I could not tear my eyes away from the pages. I really recommend it to EVERYONE!!!!!!!!
I think that this one of the best books so far in the Bookfest competition. It is an emotional and happy book, I would recommend it to people who like love running and who know about the World War.
I really enjoyed this book as it was a very interesting. I thought this because of the way the book is themed. I also feel that the way Armistice runner is written makes you feel as though you are actually there watching what is happening to the characters , feeling what they are feeling!
I found Armistice Runner interesting and exciting. The author had me hooked in the first few pages, it was AMAZING! I think most people will enjoy reading this book so I recommend it to all.
Armistice Runner is fantastic and interesting, especially when Lily went through her grandad’s treasures and memories. I recommend this book.
This book is fantastic! I am left for words trying to write this comment. The plot and drama really sucked me in. Beware though, you may shed a tear.
This book is amazing. It is really addictive. It is so great to read about Ernest’s log books and about when he was in the war. Also, it was spectacular reading about Lily and her races and her rival.
I like Armistice Runner because Lilly is a runner and she always gave up when Abbie beat her in races but when she goes to Gran’s house, her running life changes. I would recommend it to older readers because they would understand how the narration changes.
The themes touched me and for the more sad or shocking parts I would gasp or say no as if I was in the story.
Made me feel happy and sad.
Believable because when the log books were being read it felt as though you were there with the characters.
