We have recently launched our sharing bags for each year group. Family can share the mystery book and then write a short review in the journal before it is brought back into school and passed on to another child.
The children are really enjoying this year’s Bookfest books.
- Hinstock Primary School
The class has contacted several of the shortlisted authors by email who have all responded which is really exciting. This is one of the displays we've made about Book Award 2020, which everyone in the school can stop to look at.
Corinne Davies-Griffiths - Hinstock Primary School
Some of the children have nearly finished their fourth book and we only started last Tuesday!! Some of the children have been surprised to find they loved a book they wouldn't normally have tried from the cover or blurb which has been fab to see. We have enjoyed researching each of the authors this week and are looking to contact them online next week.
English Department - Prestfelde School, Shrewsbury
The power of Shrewsbury Bookfest and some seriously brilliant children’s literature. This wonderful young man, who has never connected with a book, has finally found reading through Book Award 2020 (which we launched only 24 hours ago!) ❤️ Feeling incredibly proud and grateful!

A Y6 boy came to find me in the library today (somewhere he rarely spends time because he “just doesn’t read”) to tell me with great pride that since yesterday afternoon, he has read 90 pages of Eagle Warrior by Gill Lewis. My heart could burst! #reluctantreader
Helen Lambie - St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Madeley
I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how our Bookfest launch has gone. It is great, the children are reading like crazy, even my least able are trying their best. I read all the books over Christmas and thought they were a great selection. Alice in Y5 is also doing it, we have had to order more Slick and Malamander (my favourites) as the children are getting through the books so quickly. Very excited to be a part of it, so thank you.
Holly Keogh-Jones - Prestfelde School, Shrewsbury
Year 6 were excited to finally get their hands on the Big Book Award 2020 shortlisted titles this afternoon in the
Prestfelde project launch! We began with a “don’t just a book by its cover” book taster, before revealing the titles and covers! So exciting!
Even though the voting is over we're still enjoying our books. Today is Darby's Easter Egg Hunt- we're all as excited as she was!
Jenny Nicolson - Hinstock Primary School
Owls Class have really enjoyed our Literacy work around Podkin One-Ear, creating healing potions, researching legends from the UK and creating author profiles for our display.
Simone - Greenacres Primary School
We've had a 100% success rate with responses to questions sent to the shortlisted authors on twitter. The children love getting the latest update which I print off and put on the display. The book reviews that they've written to go on this website are also printed and put up in the speech bubbles.
This is how we presented the Book Award 2018 shortlist to the class....we wrapped the books up to disguise the book cover design, and put a summary of the 'blurb' about the story....
This is a 'Bookfest Book and Breakfast' event. The children were invited in (for free) to have breakfast and talk about the books with each other over a breakfast before the school day started. A huge success....
