Shrewsbury Bookfest’ May Festival 2017 opened at a canter, with a guest appearance from national treasure, TV presenter, and sports commentator Clare Balding OBE.

The racing expert took to the stage at a Shrewsbury school to talk about her latest book, ‘The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop’.

Addressing a packed hall at Prestfelde School, the 46-year-old told anecdotes and explained the inspiration for her first children’s book. The award-winning broadcaster, journalist and author had travelled to Shrewsbury to open the festival and explained to the audience that although she was a lot naughtier as a child than the character in her book, she could identify with her in many ways.

Bookfest spent an amazing morning yesterday at Gre Bookfest spent an amazing morning yesterday at Greenfields Primary School with Beech, Poplar and Oak classes who with their fantastic teachers have taken the Readers to Writers 2023 project to the maximum by producing some wonderful creative writing. The freedom they've been given to let their imaginations fly is producing results that are taking their teachers by surprise. Good luck everyone and huge congratulations on becoming AUTHORS!
